Several Oki mountains have been chosen for “Top 100 Island Mountains”!
Four Oki mountains, Mt. Daimanji (Okinoshima Town), Mt. Takada (Okinoshima Town), Mt. Takuhi (Nishinoshima Town), and Mt. Akahage (Chibu Village), were selected in the “Top 100 Island Mountains List”.
The “Top 100 Island Mountains” list is carried out by the Center for Research and Promotion of Japanese Islands in order to place a spotlight on the unique features and charm of mountains located on islands surrounded by ocean. The “Island Mountains” list is hoped to bring visitors and locals to rediscover the beauty of islands and to promote exchange.
Few island mountains rise higher than 1,000 meters above sea level, so you can climb to the top without worrying about your level of physical shape. This also means that you can climb all year round and discover the rare treasures of wild plants and animals, various geographical features and terrains, panoramic scenery, and historical landmarks that island mountains have to offer.
