The Oki Islands Geopark 10th anniversary event “Forest Fest: Hey! The Forest’s Future, Our Future” has already ended.
The Oki Islands Geopark was certified as a Japanese Geopark in October 2009, after which it received certification as a Global Geopark in September 2013. This year, the geopark celebrated its 10th anniversary on September 9, 2023.
To align with this, the Oki Islands Geopark Management Bureau will hold the 10th anniversary event “Forest Fest: Hey! The Forest’s Future, Our Future” on October 22.

Participants will gaze at the forests near Forest Fest, learn about its connection to our present selves and past developments, and consider what we can do to protect the forest’s future, our future.

A talk session by specialists from the Oki Islands, Yakushima Island, and Sado Island, areas that all have natural Japanese cedar forests.

Out and About! Shimane University Mini-museum: Let’s Learn About and Enjoy Trees!

📍Location: Okitō Cultural Center, 2F Assembly Room
Students studying plants at Shimane University have prepared this fun booth for enjoying the large trees of the Oki Islands. It is packed with activities like a search for pinecones and acorns from large trees and pines, a kanji quiz, and an exhibit of plant foraging products! Participants will receive a wonderful bookmark made of washi paper.
