Protect Our Island from Invasive Species! Call for Volunteers to Weed Out Lance-leaved Tickseed
Lance-leaved tickseed (Coreopsis lanceolata) is a perennial North American plant with yellow flowers that bloom in May–July. It was originally used in Japan as an ornamental plant for embankments and gardens because of its hardy nature. However, its hardiness allowed it to outcompete native species in areas of Japan where it was introduced. Due to this and the adverse effects it has on its surrounding environment, it was designated by the Japanese government as an invasive alien species in 2006.
Lance-leaved tickseed is also present in the Oki Islands and thriving in some locations. Play a part in protecting the local ecosystem and work with us to weed out this problematic plant! We hope many of you will consider participating in this event.
