Byōbu-iwa Rock (Folding-screen Rock), Washigamine Ridge

Geohistory - Rocks from Volcanic Islands Period

Geosites / Okinoshima Town

This beautiful formation of columnar joints resembles a folding screen and was named accordingly. The surrounding area, called Washigamine Ridge, is a cauldron that was formed by a large depression from volcanic activity around 5 million years ago, which was then filled by subsequent eruptions.
