Scoria Cone, Akiya Coast

Geohistory - Rocks from Volcanic Islands Period

Geosites / Ama Town

The red rock that composes this cliff is called scoria; it was formed by the accumulated lava spray from the volcano. Along the coast you can also see large masses among the red rock which are called volcanic bombs.
It is thought that the lava which flowed from this area formed the plain in the northern part of Nakanoshima Island.
