Takuhi-denda Fern

The Takuhi-denda fern was named after Nishinoshima Island's Mt. Takuhi, where it was found. This endemic fern is found only on Nishinoshima Island. In the Northern Hemisphere, there are about 40 known species of this genus (Polypodium); of these, three species and two hybrids have been identified in Japan. Takuhi-denda is thought to be a hybrid between two of these species (Polypodium fauriei and Polypodium vulgare).
